Mrs. Siplivy

2017-2018 School Year!

This is my 14th year teaching! I love being a teacher and I cannot imagine being in any other profession. I have taught Elementary School and Middle School.  Some of you may have had me for an elective last year, or know me as the Drama Teacher. I LOVE teaching Drama, but I equally love teaching English! This is my fourth year at Newhart teaching both subjects! Being in education is a privilege and a joy. I strive to create an engaging learning environment in which all students can be successful. I work to make sure that all students feel confident in their abilities to learn. Drama is a fun class in which every student gets to be creative, perform and grow their confidence. In English we learn important communication skills daily!  I hope that all of my students will love English and feel confident in their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

I am always excited about each new school year! We have so much to do and so much to learn!  I know that we will have a great year!

* Welcome letter will be sent home on the first day of school! You will be taking notes on my policies and there will be a quiz to check for understanding. I am looking forward to meeting all of my students!

Materials Suggested for Class:

Binder: you can have an English section in a large binder, or a small binder just for my class. If you like, you can use an accordion style binder. You must have an organized English section of the accordion.

  • Three hole lined paper
  • Two pens, black or blue
  • Pencils
  • One colored pen (other than black or blue)
  • Colored Pencils, or something to color with (we use these when taking notes)
  • Highlighters- at least two colors (many times you will use 5 colors of pens, markers, or highlighters)
  • Journal- spiral notebook or composition notebook- for in class notes and warm-ups (used for Quarter 1 warm-ups- must be for English only)
  • One pack of sticky notes (Post-Its)

Class Donations (optional) are always welcome, as supplies do deplete each year- not related to instruction, but still helpful: pump “style” hand sanitizer, tissues, Clorox cleaning wipes, and baby wipes. Thank you!

*Please note that the Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge.  Your right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and whether you get a grade for the activity or class.  Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require you or your family to pay security deposits for access, participation, materials or equipment.  Therefore, while this list suggests that students bring a number of items, they are considered voluntary.  No student will be restricted from participation if they are not sent to school.
