Saddleback College Offers Summer Activities

Exciting News! Saddleback College Community Education has been selected to provide afterschool campus and enrichment activities for the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD). This new partnership aligns perfectly with the missions of both CUSD and Saddleback College. For more than 30 years, Saddleback College Community Education has served the needs of the South Orange County community by providing an array of high-quality classes and activities that promote life-long learning and personal success. Established at Saddleback College in the early 1980’s, Community Education’s College For Kids Program is one of the region’s most successful summer programs for children. Our success is due to our commitment to provide the community with new and exceptional programs. Additionally, we offer the Youth Aquatics Program which provides swimming and diving lessons for infants through school-age children during the summer months. The new partnership will expand Saddleback’s College For Kids Program and Junior Gauchos outreach efforts to offer fun and educational activities to meet the needs of our local elementary and middle schools. Our goal is to bring the college experience to more youth in our community throughout the year and to encourage them to think about college as the next step after high school. Over the next few months we will carefully assess CUSD schools to better understand the needs of each school site. We will expand our current program offerings, transition successful ACE classes to our program, and begin to build numerous new partnerships in to meet the afterschool educational and enrichment needs of CUSD students and families. We look forward to your participation in any upcoming surveys, focus groups, and advisory meetings, or in providing any general feedback you have to help us to better serve the needs of our students.
Tdap vaccine requirement for students entering 7th grade

Whooping cough (pertussis) has been widespread in California. Many students have had to miss school because they were sick. To help protect your children and others from whooping cough, a new California law now requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough. For the 2013-2014 school year, all students entering 7th through 12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (commonly called the “Tdap” vaccine) before starting school. Thereafter, in future school years, only students entering 7th grade will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (Tdap) before starting school. Please see the following resources ( downloadable PDFs ) for more information:
