Text-A-Tip & Bullying

The Board of Trustees desires to provide a safe school environment that allows all students equal access and opportunities in the district’s academic and other educational support programs, services, and activities.  The Board prohibits, at any District school or school activity, unlawful discrimination, including discriminatory harassment, intimidation, and bullying of any student based on the student’s actual or perceived race, color, ancestry, national origin, nationality, ethnicity, ethnic group identification, age, religion, marital or parental status, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

Newhart Middle School has a program called “Text-A-Tip” in an effort to keep schools safe.  The program provides students a confidential method to report problems directly to the School Resource Deputy and to school administrators.

Text-A-Tip will allow students to use their cell phone to text and report issues such as bullying, depression, fights, drugs, weapons, and any threats relating to campus safety.  Via a confidential text, students can detail a problem without the fear of being labeled a “snitch,” “rat,” or “tattletale” by their peers.  Posters will be placed around the campus so students will be aware of the program and the phone number for sending their texts.

Texting is a very comfortable way for the youth of today to communicate, and we feel this program will keep the lines of communication open between the students and the school administrators.

Text a Tip to 949-415-TEXT (8398)

This program is not intended for emergency use.  In case of an emergency requiring immediate law enforcement response, students should call 911.

Bullying & Harassment

If you or someone you know have been the victim of bullying or harassment there are many ways to report it.

  • Text-A-Tip (949) 415-TEXT (8398).  A text message will go directly to an administrator to follow up on.
  • Put a submission in the Bully Box in the library.
  • Report it directly to the front office.

All reports will be kept anonymous to the best of our ability but may require the administration to follow up with the victim/or witnesses to clarify pertinent information.
